The old town of Marbella
The old town of Marbella is hidden away and retains its medieval charm and has beautiful
boutiques and restaurants. It is just off the main high street often hidden by tourist
but take a look and enjoy a cafe con leche at the orange square in the old town
of Marbella. Visit in the Spring and the scent of oranges will overcome you. At
any time of year a drink by one of the many rustic bars to enjoy the white washed
houses of the locals with potted geraniums and hot pink bourgainvillea tumbling
down from wrought iron balconies is not to be missed. The more exclusive Puerto
Banus, six miles (10km) to the west, is where you will find the casino and the seriously
large yachts. The marina there is a must see at night, just to people watch, walk
past Gucci, Jimmy Choo and Versace boutiques and to watch the sports cars that cruise
past you.
Those visitors who drive just a few miles inland to the villages in the hills around
Ronda will discover a Spain completely untouched by tourism, with village markets
and tapas bars to be explored.
